The Midwest U.S. is under the gun again today, as a potent storm system that spawned a preliminary count of 24 tornadoes in five states on Sunday reloads and prepares to dish out another afternoon and evening of atmospheric mayhem. Sunday's tornadoes swept through Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois, with Oklahoma bearing the brunt of the assault. The outbreak's only deadly tornado hit Shawnee, Oklahoma, killing one person. |

In spite of days that now feature as much as 19 hours of daylight in Fairbanks at this time, winter in Alaska has stubbornly dragged on into the 3rd week of May. April was the coldest such on record for Fairbanks and the city has yet to see a single day with above normal temperatures since April 2nd. Temperatures fell to -12°F (-24.4°C) in Deadhorse just yesterday (May 19th). |

As the dry and seasonal weather begins to break across the Northeast, increasing threats for rain are likely over the area. A widespread soaking rain is likely for the middle to end of the week followed by significantly below normal temperatures to start off the second week in May. |
